Common warranty questions

A few things customers ask us most often about machine warranties.

Do I need to register my machine to activate the warranty?
It depends on the brand. Janome, Bernette and Bernina all require registration via a card or online. baby lock requires registration within 3 months for the extended warranty. Brother does not require registration, just keep your receipt. For Pfaff and Husqvarna, we can register on your behalf - just provide your serial number, name, address and email.
What counts as commercial or teaching use?
If a machine is used in a business, school, college, workshop or any environment where it is used by multiple people or for commercial production, it is classed as commercial or teaching use. All brands apply a shorter warranty for this, typically 1 year, or 6 months for Pfaff and Husqvarna.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
Servicing by an unauthorised repairer can void your warranty. Always use an authorised service centre — we are authorised for all the brands we sell. For Bernina, regular servicing every 2 years is actually required to maintain the full 7-year warranty.
My machine was a gift - is the warranty still valid?
Most manufacturer warranties are non-transferable and valid only for the original purchaser. The warranty period runs from the date of purchase, so it is worth keeping the original receipt regardless of who the machine was bought for.
What if my machine develops a fault outside the warranty period?
Get in touch with us - our in-house service team can assess and repair most machines regardless of age or warranty status. We will give you a clear quote before any work is carried out. Call us on 01209 216 942 or send us a message.
